Maureen Kaye, M.A.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family therapist working
with children, adults, couples, and women experiencing
transition and/or disruptive life changes. My goal is to provide a safe
and caring environment to help clients increase self-acceptance,
self-esteem, feelings of empowerment and confidence that ultimately lead
to greater success and joy in life.
At times, unproductive life-patterns create undo stress and frustration. Clients feel supported as we explore underlying painful emotions and difficult life events including trauma, abuse, grief, loss, anxiety and depression. As we work together, clients learn useful tools for positive communication and relationship skills fostering personal growth.
I specialize in sandtray and expressive play therapy, enhancing one’s ability to access and express unresolved feelings and experiences, both past and present, that contribute to anger, shame, frustration, hopelessness, low self-esteem and powerlessness. I bring to my work a rich palette of life experience and commitment that allow me to connect with my clients.
My background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from CSU Northridge and a Master’s degree in Psychology/Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute. My work as a school-based therapist helping children with emotional, social, behavior or learning difficulties has provided me with a great deal of experience in helping them to improve social, academic and behavior skills. I co-founded and directed a parent’s group providing parenting skills, education and support, enabling parents a better understanding of the struggles associated with rearing challenging children, minimizing parental guilt and providing a greater sense of hope for these families.
I can be reached at (805)428-6655.
